Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

For my second recommendation, I thought I’d write about a previous day trip to the west-end of Glasgow, to visit the iconic Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. As one of Glasgow’s most popular tourist attractions, this will be at the top of a lot of “Things to do in Glasgow” lists – and with good reason.

Kelvingrove is a perfect day out for families, as the museum has interactive activities for kids and you can explore the 22 different galleries that are on offer!

Upon entering Kelvingrove, visitors will be greeted by the floating heads, as below. This is something unique at Kelvingrove, and they are the thing which stand out to me most when I think back to trips here.

Artist Sophie Cave installed the floating heads in 2010

You will also have the opportunity to visit the famous Salvador Dali painting ‘Christ of Saint John of the Cross’, which is an iconic and world renowned painting and exclusive to Kelvingrove.

The idea of the painting came to Dali in a dream

Catching a glimpse of this piece of history made the whole day for me!

Kelvingrove have galleries showcasing art, animals and even a rain forest gallery, so there is bound to be something that everyone in the family will enjoy.

The museum was also home to Oor Wullie Bucket Trial during summer, the purpose of this was to raise awareness of Scotland’s children’s hospital charities.

The best part about this fantastic Museum, is that entry is completely free – however, they do kindly ask for donations. Sometimes the museum will be home to collections such as Linda McCartney’s photography collection, and these events do have an entry fee as they are only there temporarily.

The museum address is: Argyle St, Glasgow G3 8AG. Kelvingrove is easily accessible to the public, as there are many public transport options available.

Out of 12,000 reviews, Kelvingrove has received 4.7 starts out of 5!
